Abstract

The sustainability of digital ventures has become a growing challenge in intermediate cities in Ecuador because adopting digital channels does not, by itself, ensure operational continuity or economic stability. This study analysed the effects of administrative management on the sustainability of active digital ventures in Quevedo during 2025. A quantitative, field-based, non-experimental, and cross-sectional design was applied through a survey of 130 ventures in trade and service activities. The questionnaire gathered information on formalization, sales, business age, number of collaborators, reinvestment capacity, and perceived current sustainability. Results showed an average monthly sales value of USD 2,541.38, an average business age of 3.36 years, and a small-scale organizational structure with about four collaborators per venture. Sales were not normally distributed, and formalized ventures with a tax registration number reported significantly higher sales than non-formalized ventures. Positive associations were also observed between number of collaborators and sales, and between reinvestment and current sustainability. Overall, the evidence suggests that economic and operational sustainability depends on the incorporation of basic administrative routines, particularly planning, control, and formalization.
